The Animal Shelter I work at is a small building that houses 100-150+ animals. These animals are taken care of by a small staff that consists of the Office, the Kennel and the Officers on the road. The shelter is run by the County Government and relies heavily on donations from the community to help us meet our demanding food and supply needs.
The shelter services a very diverse area. Because it is county-wide, we see everything from the heart of an intercity, urban neighborhood, to acres and acres of sprawling, expansive farmland. On any given day I can be wrangling Pit Bulls in our Northside, and then respond to calls of cattle, horses or pigs loose in the rural outskirts. Its this diversity that makes every day something to look forward to. No two days are ever the same. Despite the routine and flow of the week, each day brings its own new challenges.
I'm not going to be specific about what shelter it is, or where it is. That isn't the point of the story. The stories and events described can and do happen in any city in any state.
