I had a big long essay written here in regard to euthanasia, but rather than get into the dynamics of the Kill/No-Kill debate, I'll refrain from that. The purpose of this blog is to highlight the moments that make my career meaningful, and to share the stories that keep me on this path.
Despite your beliefs and mine, please keep any negative comments to yourself. The shelter I work does deal with euthanasia on a daily basis. There are a number of reason why euthanasia is necessary, including the ability to end an animal's suffering at the request of the owner. Not all euthanasia is a result of lack of space at the shelter, although that is often a factor. Euthanasia is a part of my job that I have come to view with mixed emotions. Sometimes I'm upset about it, other times I'm happy I can give the animal peace at last.
I'm happy to answer any questions that come up with this topic, but I do not intend to make it the main focus of this blog. This is not the venue for arguments or heated debates.
